Catch Up With the Carolinas
CLEANcarolinas Partner
Kickoff Meeting
07.26.2023
Energy Production & Infrastructure Center, Charlotte, NC
On July 26, CLEANcarolinas had the privilege of hosting our Partner Kickoff meeting at the Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) in Charlotte, NC. This inaugural gathering served as a significant milestone, not only because CLEANcarolinas is the only recipient of the Developmental Engine award focused on clean energy in the Eastern United States, but also because it provided an invaluable opportunity to align our collective visions. We were excited to discuss our ambitious plans to accelerate use-inspired research in renewable energy products like solar, wind, and marine technologies, as well as smart grid innovations. Additionally, we delved into our goal of developing disruptive technology to support clean hydrogen as a second energy carrier. This initiative complements the STEPs4GROWTH program led by NC A&T State, targeting comprehensive workforce development and aiming to elevate social mobility through education.
We were honored to be joined by a broad spectrum of partners, each bringing unique strengths to the table. Our industry associates include powerhouses like CAPER, Duke Energy, Dominion Energy, Rolls Royce Power Systems, ABB, Santee Cooper, and Siemens Energy. Government agency collaborators span the NC Department of Commerce, SC Research Authority, SC Ports Authority, and more. Academic partnerships range from UNC Charlotte to Clemson University and NC A&T State University, among others. Community organizations and consortia like E4 Carolinas and Sustain SC also play crucial roles. The collective expertise of our partners will undoubtedly fuel innovation in offshore wind technology, marine energy technologies, and long-term energy storage solutions, all while building on existing partnerships to advance R&D in distributed renewable generation and grid management. With such an extensive network, we are well-positioned to develop a comprehensive, publicly available inventory to catalog clean energy innovations, thus driving the region towards a more sustainable and inclusive future.
