Catch Up With the Carolinas

Charlotte, NC
On April 4th, Vice President Kamala Harris and EPA Administrator Michael Regan traveled to Grier Heights, a historic black neighborhood in Charlotte to announce $20B in awards that will be deployed to eight selected applicants to finance a national network to fund thousands of climate and clean energy projects to lower energy costs for low-income and historically disadvantaged communities. The program is part of the Environmental Protection Agency's Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF). Also present at the invitation-only event were NC Governor Roy Cooper, Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles, and Congresswoman Alma Adams, as well as representatives from local businesses and neighborhood community leaders.
At the event, CLEANcarolinas Project Director, Michael Mazzola, and Chief Engagement Officer Carolyn Keith met with Inclusiv board member James Hunter and Neda Arabshahi, Inclusiv's SVP for Resilience and Clean Energy. Inclusiv is a 50-year-old nonprofit CDFI Intermediary that provides capital and capacity building for a national network of 900 regulated credit unions and is a recipient of nearly $2 billion from the GGRF. A follow-up meeting is scheduled in New Orleans with Mr. Hunter, Ms. Keith, and Dr. Saffeer Khan, CLEANcarolinas Project Co-director, at the International Partnering Forum, a conference focused on the offshore wind industry. They will discuss how CLEANcarolinas might partner with Inclusiv to assist Carolinas' small and medium-sized businesses to finance participation in the nascent offshore wind supply chain, a once-in-a-generation opportunity to drive regional economic development.
