Cullowhee, NC
Dr. Mike Mazzola, Project Director and Carolyn Keith, Chief Engagement Officer met with Dr. Randy Collins, Dean of the School of Engineering & Technology and Dr. Andy Ritenour, Assistant Professor and Principal Investigator on WCU's recently-awarded National Science Foundation EPIIC (Enabling Partnerships to Increase Innovation Capacity) grant.
Per the NSF website: the program, launched by the NSF Directorate for Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships (TIP), aims to provide institutions with training and networking support to develop the capacity and institutional knowledge needed to help build more inclusive ecosystems and enable participation in regional innovation ecosystems, potentially connecting to NSF Regional Innovation Engines.
The CLEANcarolinas team was provided a tour of WCU's Rapid Center, a research & development facility whose primary mission is to partner with businesses, advanced manufacturing industries and entrepreneurs to develop new products and processes.
In late 2023, it was announced that WCU will receive $95M in funding from the NC General Assembly to construct a new engineering facility and to expand programs. This is to help meet the workforce development needs of a region that is experiencing unprecedented growth in engineering, manufacturing, and research-focused industries.
